— As Ogbakor Ikwerre Medical Mission Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month In Emohua
As the present administration in Emohua local government council continues to attract commendations for its laudable achievements within the past two years, erstwhile council chairman and leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the local government area, Eze Paul Wokhe Wonodi says the incumbent chairman of the local government area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd has made the people proud with the delivery of a befitting primary healthcare centre within one year of his administration.
Eze Paul Wonodi stated this on Wednesday at a brief ceremony held in commemoration of the 2023 breast cancer awareness month at the local government primary healthcare centre, venue of the ongoing 5-day free medical/surgical mission organised by the Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada incorporated in partnership with Emohua local government.
He commended Dr Lloyd for giving the people of the area a healthcare centre suitable enough to host the medical/surgical mission of the Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada incorporated.
Paul Wonodi who represented the chairman of the Rivers State traditional rulers council and paramount ruler of Emohua kingdom, HRM Sir Ohna Sergeant Awuse at the ceremony, while appreciating the leadership of the USA/Canada branch of the apex Ikwerre socio-cultural organization for the choice of Emohua local government area for the 2023 edition of their annual outreach, as well as their commitment to the wellbeing of the people of Ikwerre ethnic nationality, noted that the Emohua local government primary healthcare centre wouldn’t have been considered for the medical mission if the facility was below standard.
The president of Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada incorporated, Mr Patrick Anyawoke in his brief address said the organization is a non-profit union of Ikwerre people resident in the United States of America and Canada, with a vision to contribute to the development of Ikwerre ethnic nationality.
He commended Dr Chidi Lloyd for his support to the group through the provision of a befitting facility, security and other logistics support, as well as his physical presence to ensure the success of the annual medical mission.
Mr Anyawoke said the medical/surgical mission aims to provide access to quality medical services to indigent members of Ikwerre ethnic nationality across the four Ikwerre-speaking local government areas (Emohua, Ikwerre, Obio-Akpor and PortHarcourt) back home in Nigeria.
He also noted that the influx of persons to the venue of the outreach had further revealed that a great number of residents of the area actually sought medical attention.
He further urged other local government areas to emulate Dr Chidi Lloyd by providing medical facilities that would be capable of hosting such events, with a view to improving healthcare services across the Ikwerre ethnic nationality.
The immediate past president of the Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada incorporated and project leader of the medical mission, Mr Eric Wele commended Dr. Lloyd for keeping to his promise to the team and ensuring that the necessary measures were put in place for the success of the outreach.
Meanwhile, Dr Chidi has stated that it is the responsibility of every responsible government to embark on projects with direct bearing on people, describing the Emohua primary healthcare centre as one such project because of the importance of healthcare in society.
He said he was glad to have been able to conceive and complete a facility that was found worthy of hosting the annual medical/surgical mission of the Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada incorporated, stating that the event will go a long way in telling the story of the facility.
While reiterating his administration’s commitment to the implementation of more people-oriented projects across the local government area, Dr Lloyd said the conception of the primary healthcare centre by his administration became necessary following the lack of good medical facilities in the local government area.
The council chairman appreciated the medical team of the apex Ikwerre socio-cultural organization based in faraway USA and Canada for sacrificing their resources and respective engagements abroad to embark on the free medical/surgical mission to the Emohua local government area.
He further commended His Majesty, Ohna Sergeant Awuse who was unavoidably absent at the event due to other official engagements, for his magnanimous support and encouragement to the medical outreach and all other policies and programs of his administration, as he in the same vein appreciated Eze Paul Wonodi for his support to his administration.
The Emolga council Boss however noted that the turnout at the medical outreach was already overwhelming but promised to work out the modalities to consolidate the gains of the medical outreach which is expected to end on Friday, for the overall benefit of the people of Emohua local government area.
The paramount ruler of Ibaa/Obelle, HRH Eze Sunday Wobodo Jonah and Ms Nneka Obiwali were among other notable speakers at the brief event who also commended Dr. Chidi Lloyd for hosting the annual medical/surgical mission.
The highlight of the event was the cutting of the 2023 breast cancer awareness month cake by members of the medical team of the Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada incorporated and stand-up comedy by popular PortHarcourt comedian, Danny Spry
Dr. Lloyd was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife, Lady Divine Adanma Chidi-Lloyd, with the vice chairman of Emohua LGA, Hon Mrs Edna Nyeche Addis; leader of Emohua legislative assembly, Hon Mrs Love Nyenke and other principal officers of the local government council in attendance.
